This week I took a look at Cartier from my list of Top Jewellery houses. No one really knows Louis-Francois Cartier, but everyone knows the jewellery house Cartier. Well Louis-Francois Cartier was the founder of the jewellery brand Cartier. In 1847 Louis-Francois took control of his masters workshop in Paris and that is were it all started. From what I read about the Cartier's, is that it was a family business. Louis-Francois's brothers; Pierre Cartier and Jacques Cartier also got involved in establishing the Cartier name around the world. They opened shops in London and New York.
In 1899 Cartier introduced a new style of jewellery, "Garland style". This new design of jewellery was one of the first to use platinum with classical antique designs. The tiara below was Elisabeth's Queen of Belgium. The was made by Cartier.
